Microneedling FAQs
What is microneedling?
Also referred to as skin needling, collagen induction therapy (CIT), or percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), microneedling is safe and minimally invasive, allowing for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair process by creating precise, micro-injuries (tiny punctures). This stimulates your skin’s natural ability to heal by producing new collagen and elastin fibers, encouraging your skin to look and feel healthier.
No tissue destruction occurs with microneedling, and the tiny channels in the epidermis close quickly. This quick, minimally invasive treatment stimulates the natural production of new collagen and elastin in the skin, with a repair process that begins almost immediately.
How is the treatment performed?
A sterile disposable needle cartridge, holding either 12 or 36 micro-needles is glided across the skin with a microneedling device, creating micro-channels to the desired depth chosen for your skin concerns by your Clinician.
How many microneedling treatments will I need?
We recommend a series of 3-6 microneedling treatments, depending upon your area of correction or concern. Your Clinician will determine a treatment schedule based on your individual aesthetic goals. Treatments are recommended in 4-week intervals. Patients with deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, or any type of scars, normally require 6 or more treatments to achieve optimal results.
Will My microneedling procedure hurt?
Prior to your treatment, your clinician will apply a topical numbing agent. Most people say they feel almost nothing when numbing cream is used.
How long will it take to see results?
Patients typically see results after their first microneedling treatment. Individual results vary depending on individual skin health and areas of concern. More noticeable changes or positive results will occur within a few days to 1-2 weeks after the first treatment.
How long will my results last?
Microneedling stimulates growth factors and collagen, thereby promoting new skin cells to surface. As skin ages, collagen production naturally slows down. Your results will last longer when using an at-home skincare regimen that includes a daily Retinoid/Retinol product. Your clinician will recommend skincare products best suited for your skin type and concerns. New collagen and elastin formation in the skin are documented as visually and measurably improved as much as one year after just one treatment. However, a series of treatments is typically recommended for optimal results.
How much downtime should I expect?
Microneedling is considered a no-downtime treatment. Immediately after your treatment, your skin will look slightly pink to moderately red, similar to that of a slight sunburn. Your Clinician will recommend aftercare products to greatly minimize symptoms and enhance your overall results.
Can I use makeup after having my microneedling treatment?
Following your treatment, we recommend using only a mineral-based foundation, to avoid bacteria build-up. You may return to your regular foundation 4 days post-treatment.
