PRP Hair Restoration FAQs
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma, also known as PRP, is a high concentration of your own platelets in a small volume of plasma.
Widely used to treat torn tendons, tendinitis, muscle injuries, arthritis-related pain, and joint injuries, PRP injections produce amazing results when used to treat androgenic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness), or in combination with microneedling to trigger collagen production, reduce wrinkles and scarring and other anti-aging benefits.
How does a provider harvest PRP?
The process begins with a small, simple blood draw. The PRP is separated by spinning it in a centrifuge in our office. The pure platelet-rich plasma is then strategically injected into your scalp to stimulate hair follicles and growth.
Does it work for everyone?
PRP for hair loss works best where there is existing thinning hair or early staging of male pattern hair loss. PRP proves to be a very safe and natural treatment due to the use of your body’s own platelets (serum). Results vary from patient to patient, and a thorough assessment is done by our clinician to determine if you are an appropriate candidate.
What are the Benefits of PRP Hair Loss Treatment?
Highly effective. The growth factors found in platelet-rich plasma stimulate hair follicles with wonderful results. Most people see visible improvements within just a couple of months. Multiple sessions are typically required to see results. Once satisfactory results have been reached, maintenance treatments are recommended on an as-needed basis.
This non-surgical treatment requires just a small blood draw, resulting in zero downtime.
Little to no discomfort. This minimally invasive procedure uses only a small amount of blood and simple injections.
Quick and easy. With only a small amount of blood and simple injections, your treatment session is successfully completed.
How long does the process take?
With the Eclipse PRP® kit, the blood draw takes just a couple of minutes, followed immediately by a 10-minute centrifugation. The treatment time is 30-45 minutes. Our clinicians and staff will ensure you are as comfortable as possible during your visit, ensuring an enjoyable experience with us.
How many sessions are required?
For optimal results, we recommend three initial treatments spaced one month apart, with another three cycles of PRP after 6 months. Maintenance treatments should be scheduled every 6-8 months apart to continue hair growth.
You’ll notice results as early as 2-3 months. After the initial series of treatments, maintenance is required every 6 months to a year.
Your clinician will create a treatment plan based on your individual needs and budget.
Can a PRP procedure be painful?
Eclipse PRP® is close to a physiologic pH, which means the product is less likely to cause a stinging or burning sensation. There may be some temporary discomfort or possible redness and inflammation at the application site. It is recommended you consult with your health care provider.
Is PRP safe?
Since Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is produced from a patient’s own blood, there is minimal risk of an allergic reaction or rejection.
